Videoconferencing
In addition to the standard set of instructional technologies, this room also
contains integrated automated camera and microphone systems. Because all
of the audio and video content may be routed to and from the building's internal
centralized videoconferencing systems, users of this room may seamlessly
collaborate with anyone who is not physically present but who also has a
standards-based videoconferencing system at their end anywhere in the world.
The room provides a a means for efficient communication, collaboration and
decision-making and has many of the same advantages as a face-to-face meeting
including being able to see each other's facial expressions and body language.
It also allows people to share files and data, so that it is easy to hold
presentations, review documents and make fast decisions. Participants
meeting within this room may simultaneously videoconference between one (point
to point) to three separate remote sites (multipoint) on almost any type of
digital network such as ISDN and IP. For even larger-scale distributed
meetings, this room provides participants access to a complete range of
videoconferencing technologies as well as webcasting capabilities for live
events or event archival. In addition, this room also provides access to the U.T. System Video Network Operations
Center on campus that serves as a nexus for several interactive compressed
digital video networks, including those operated by Texas A&M System, Texas Tech
University, and various dial-up (ISDN) providers.
